More on the JD Lead The JD Lead was built in the late 1950s to service the newly built Manchester Industrial Area. It was named the JD Lead as it branched off from the JC Lead - as a "sub-spur". The JD Lead was built along with the JC Lead in the late 1950s, to help open up more of the area that the JA Lead and JB Lead already served The only way to access the JB, JC, and JD Leads were via the JA Lead.
Around 1986, one spur off the JD Lead track was removed and another was extended to accommodate the expansion of a building served by the track.
Today the JD Lead serves only one customer - Lafarge Cement - but most of its original trackage which went past the cement facility is still around - although it is atrociously overgrown. The JD Lead did have some track embedded in pavement (street running) on certain spurs into facilities.
