J Lead Constructed to serve Calgary's Cominco fertilizer plant ~1954 A passing siding, known as the Doubling Spur was installed on the lead about 1.5 miles north of the Cominco plant. ~1955 The Blackfoot Trail crossing is installed on the line and the J Lead gains a second customer The J Lead is extended northward to parallel the Macleod Subdivision. This track is still in use today. 1969 The J Lead is rerouted slightly to allow for Glenmore Trail to pass over it ~1976 A decline in customers using the line begins with the Associated Grocers spur being removed 1987 The Cominco plant reduces its operation, leaving many rail served buildings unused 1989 The CNR 6060 steam locomotive needs a place to be repaired, and is brought to the empty Cominco facility via the CN line that also services the plant 1993 After repairs take place, the 6060 leaves the Cominco plant on the J Lead 1996 The segment between 58th St and the Cominco plant is removed due to the closure of the plant ~2001 One of two remaining customers on the J Lead stops receiving rail access, leaving one customer using the line 2014 The final customer using the J Lead stops receiving rail access, and the J Lead becomes abandoned 2016 The J Lead is formally classified as abandoned by Transport Canada 2017 The J Lead is cut off from the Aldersyde Subdivision, making it inaccessible to trains 2023 The track on the Blackfoot Trail road crossing is paved over |
